Cutest Puppy (12 months and under)
Appearance: The judge will be looking for an irresistibly cute puppy with appealing physical features. This could include things like big eyes, floppy ears, and a soft, fluffy coat. Playfulness & Energy: Puppies are often playful and energetic, so the judge will look for a lively, happy pup that shows an engaging personality. Overall Condition: A healthy, well-groomed puppy will stand out. The judge will also appreciate a well-mannered pup who is confident and comfortable in the ring.
4.30 PM
Dog Most Like Their Owner
Physical Similarity: The judge may look for traits that resemble the owner's appearance or style—this could be the dog's coat color, breed characteristics, or even a similar posture. Personality Match: A dog that reflects its owner’s demeanor or behavior might be another factor. For example, a calm, composed dog with a laid-back owner or an energetic dog with a similarly enthusiastic owner. Bond Between Owner and Dog: A strong bond can be seen in the way the owner and dog interact. Judges will notice if the dog follows commands effortlessly, stays close to its owner, and has a deep connection that shines through in the ring.
4.45 PM
Waggiest Tail
Enthusiasm: The judge will be looking for a dog with a tail that wags energetically and continuously, showing excitement and happiness. Tail Movement: The wag should be prominent, whether it’s a vigorous shake or a constant swish. It’s all about the joy the dog expresses with its tail. Overall Happy Vibe: Dogs that exhibit a genuinely happy demeanor—tail wagging, bright eyes, and an excited posture—will often stand out in this category.
5.00 PM
Best Golden Oldie (10 years and over)
Age and Experience: The judge will be looking for a dog that has aged gracefully, still showing vitality and a positive attitude despite being in their golden years. Condition: The dog should appear well-cared-for, with a healthy coat, bright eyes, and a good overall condition. A dog that can still show enthusiasm and energy despite its age may impress the judge. Character and Calmness: Golden Oldies often have a calm, dignified presence, and the judge will be looking for a dog that exudes wisdom and charm as well as good health.
5.15 PM
Best Rescue
Rescue Story: The judge will likely be interested in the dog’s background and the journey it has had to find a loving home. A dog with an inspiring or heartwarming rescue story will often stand out. This might include overcoming hardship, abuse, or abandonment, and now thriving in its new home. Condition & Health: Judges will look for a dog that is healthy, happy, and well-cared for, reflecting the positive impact of rescue and rehabilitation. A dog that looks content and physically fit will be more likely to impress. Personality & Character: The dog’s demeanor is crucial—whether it’s playful, friendly, or calm, the judge will be observing how the dog interacts with its handler and the audience. Rescued dogs often have resilient, unique personalities that reflect their past and present lives. Connection with Owner: Often, the bond between the rescue dog and its owner is a key factor. The judge will note how well the dog responds to the handler’s cues and how much trust and affection is demonstrated in their relationship.
5.30 PM
Best Costume (Judged by Santa Claus)
Creativity & Originality: The judge will be looking for a costume that is unique, well-thought-out, and creative. It’s not just about how elaborate the costume is, but how original and fun it is. The more imaginative, the better! Comfort and Safety: The dog should look comfortable in the costume. A well-fitted costume that doesn’t restrict the dog’s movement, sight, or breathing is important. The judge will take note of how easily the dog is able to move, walk, and behave naturally while wearing the outfit. Theme & Holiday Spirit: The costume should reflect the spirit of Christmas. This could include anything from a Santa Claus outfit, reindeer antlers, snowman outfits, or festive accessories. A fun, seasonal theme will make the costume stand out. Presentation: The overall presentation, including the handler’s involvement in showcasing the costume, matters too. A well-executed performance in the ring—where the dog shows off the costume confidently—could earn extra points. Humor & Charm: Since it’s a fun class, a little humor can go a long way. A dog that “owns” the costume and plays along with the festivities can win over the judge with its charm and joyful attitude.
